Aquatic Invertebrates

Explore the unique world of invertebrates in the Pacific Basin

Introduction to Aquatic Invertebrates Aquatic Invertebrates events in Hawaii and around the Pacific Basin

Invertebrates are animals that do not have a backbone. Marine animals live in the ocean. Some marine invertebrates, like lobsters and crabs, have hard outer shells called exoskeletons; others, like jellyfish, have no hard parts.

Invertebrates are the foundation of ocean life. Some float around on the ocean currents and serve as food for open-ocean animals. Some form coral reefs that shelter and feed other invertebrates as well as fish and marine mammals. Others, such as octopus, squid, and jellyfish are further up the food chain and, as adults, act as mid-level predators. More?
