PBIN & Community-based Resource Management
PBIN provides technical support for community-based resource management programs that strive to improve local ecological conditions through grassroots networking and student involvement.

Malama Maunalua Initiative
Malama Hawaii is a hui of over seventy organizations and hundreds of individuals committed to the vision that Hawaii‘i, our special island home, be a place where the people, land and sea are cared for, and communities are healthy and safe. The Malama Maunalua Initiative is a community-based program dedicated to creating a more culturally and ecologically healthy Maunalua region. Malama Maunalua is working in partnership with the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Malama Hawaii, Hui Nalu Canoe Club and various schools to improve the environmental quality of the bay and its surrounding lands.

PBIN staff have trained project members in the use of GPS in the field, given an introductory GIS presentation and led a field exercise to geo-reference current species observation and monitoring activities.
