Applications

Products developed by PBIN organizations

PBIN and partners are constantly developing products such as computer applications and data resources that will allow scientists, resource managers, the general public, teachers and students to organize and utilize biological and ecological data. If you have a data resource or application that you would like to serve through PBIN, please contact the webmaster and tell us about it. If you know of an application that you would like to see on PBIN, please let us know. Thanks!

Applications
  • WebGIS Service for Hawaii

  • This project was undertaken by PBIN, the Hawaii Biodiversity and Mapping Program (formerly Hawaii Natural Heritage Program) and the National Mapping Division of USGS. The WebGIS Service allows users to choose the information they wish to display on the map from a selection of data layers, as well as input their own notes to create a map that serves their unique needs.

  • Taxonomic Services

  • This project is under development in partnership with the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum. The Taxonomic Services offers a variety of tools and services related to the science of naming of organisms. Users can search participating museum's databases for an organism's scientific name, common name, species description, life characteristics, images, and, when available, geographic distribution.

  • NAS-HI

  • Nonindigenous Aquatic Species of Hawaii provides distribution maps of nonindigenous aquatic species in Hawaii. Users can search by species name, status, introduction pathway, and habitat.

    Pilot Projects

    Snake Sighting Database
The Pacific Basin Snake Sighting Database Interface was implemented by PBIN and NAS with assistance from domain specialists. It is intended to facilitate input and retrieval of snake sighting information.
